End of Life for Sophos Firewall OS v18, remaining XG Firewalls available
Sophos has announced that the Sophos XG series version 18 operating system will enter end of life at the end of July 2022. Anyone still using v18 should upgrade to version 18.5 or version 19, which is expected to be available from April 2022.
Here is an overview of the improvements in Sophos Firewall OS 18.5 MR2:
IPsec VPN enhancements
- Improved performance with support for GCM and Suite B ciphers
- Improved idle timeout support for remote access connections - maintaining connections longer
- Routing optimisation using the IP address of the tunnel interface for route-based IPsec masquerading (MASQ)
Authentication improvements
- Improved MFA support for the administrator account with alerts and a streamlined setup process.
- Support for multiple group memberships in Active Directory to show all groups a user belongs to.
Certificate improvements
- New helpful information about certificate authorities, easy identification of locally added certificates that use private keys, and easy download of the public part of a certificate.
Additional usability and functionality improvements
- New domains for TLS exclusion have been added to optimise TLS performance and user experience
- Support for Cloudflare as DDNS service provider
- Addition of a new global IPS switch to enable or disable the IPS engine
- Improvement of the installation wizard, which by default only bridges two ports
- Update of the JQuery version to 3.5.x.
XG hardware appliances still available in some cases
Although the firewall XG series is officially end of sale, Sophos is still offering individual models for sale. This offer is only valid while stocks last.
