Fortinet Q2 2019 - Everything is new in May
Fortinet
With the new quarter, Fortinet has published a new price list, which has a few surprises this time.
In the Enterprise Bundles for the FortiGate Firewalls, there is no longer an option for FortiCare 8x5 support. This is now only available for UTM bundles and as a single licence. This does not only affect new models, but all currently available firewalls and firewall licences from Fortinet.
Among the new additions, there is currently the FortiGate 400E / 401E, which offer a high port density with 16 Gigabit RJ45 as well as 16 GE SFP ports. With a firewall throughput of up to 32 gigabits per second, the firewall can also meet high demands.
The FortiGate 30E 3G4G-GBL has also been added. Now there is again a FortiGate for outdoor locations with 3G4G, either as a failover option or as a connection option where no wired Internet connection is possible.
For data centres, there is a new high-performance switch, FortiSwitch 3032E. Thanks to the 32 ports, which can all be equipped with 100 GE QSFP+/QSFP28, and the throughput performance of up to 6,400 Gigabit in duplex mode, the FortiSwitch can supply all 32 ports with the full throughput rate. This means that the switch can cope with even the most extraordinary requirements.
With the FortiToken Cloud licence, there is now also a new possibility to secure access to Fortinet devices. The administration runs via the cloud. It is possible to assign a token to several devices. The FortiToken Cloud licence includes FortiToken Mobile Tokens. These can then also be installed on smartphones and can either generate a code or, if an internet connection is available, authenticate directly via a push notification.
Fortinet uses a points system for licensing. Each token consumes one point for each month. So if you buy a licence for 120 points, you can supply 10 tokens for a year. Unused points expire after one year. FortiOS 6.2 is required for use on Fortinet devices.
Fortinet offers the biggest surprise with a new version of the FortiClient licences. From now on, there is only one licence here, where you can freely decide whether you want to manage the FortiClient via a FortiGate with FortiOS 6.2+ or via the Enterprise Management Server. These are available in a 25-unit scale, making the FortiClient more attractively priced for smaller companies.
As a final surprise, the new FortiClient also comes with the frequently requested option of the FortiSandbox Cloud. Via this, suspicious files are then checked in a behavioural analysis. The check takes place in an ISO27001 certified data centre in Frankfurt. After the analysis, the files are of course deleted.
