Sophos UTM Firewalls
At the heart of the Sophos service are the powerful UTM firewalls. But what does UTM actually mean? UTM stands for "Unified Threat Management" (roughly but nevertheless aptly translated: "Bundled Threat Management"). As IT security became more of an issue, early firewalls simply filtered traffic based on ports and IP addresses. Over time, firewalls evolved by tracking the status of network connections passing through the appliance. But digital threats did not remain idle either. They continued to diversify in terms of specific points of attack, requiring companies to deploy multiple appliances, each with different roles, to defend against different classes of attack.
Consequently, the infrastructure became increasingly bulky in this regard. A uniform solution was needed that bundles as many protective functions as possible in one device. Thus the UTM approach was born. That was in 2003.
Sophos UTM firewalls bundle a variety of security services into one appliance, providing robust network protection against a wide range of attack types. To make management and reporting easy for administrators, all-in-one management interfaces are built in to centrally manage multiple services, functions, policies and compliance rules. Sophos thus offers a simple solution to protect against complex threats.
What are the Sophos features?
Sophos offers a wide range of features as part of its UTM firewalls. Far too many to list here without going beyond the scope. A glance at the data sheets of the Sophos firewall solutions already reveals this. Therefore, we will "only" mention the central aspects here:
- Role-based administration profiles - be it as an auditor, read only or as a manager with all powers.
- Tracking of configuration changes and backup functions
- Point & Click IPS rule management
- Protection against DoS and DDoS as well as port scanning
- Regional or country-specific blocking (over 360 countries)
- Sandboxing
- Various authentication methods (Active Directory, eDirectory, RADIUS, LDAP and TACACS+)
- SSL encryption
- and much more.
Sophos is not stingy with its range of functions and provides very practical tools and modules for both security and administration.
What does our Sophos Shop offer?
We offer a whole range of Sophos appliances, spare parts for them (power supply units, etc.) and the corresponding licenses. The function and scope of these appliances and licenses can cover different areas of focus, depending on your needs. Be it Sophos SafeGuard to provide special protection for your sensitive data. Sophos RED appliances to connect your remote offices to your configured UTM firewall or special solutions for the special protection of endpoints. Of course, there are also licenses that bundle all this and more.
Still questions about Sophos UTM?
Are you thinking of buying Sophos, but still have questions? Then don't hesitate to contact us! You are welcome to use our free hotline. In an initial meeting you can tell us about your specific concerns and your ideas in this regard. We at EnBITCon GmbH will then determine the best possible configuration and implementation, whereby we will not only assist you in the grey theory, but can also help you with installation and maintenance if necessary.
