Sophos Wireless: removal of licensing requirement in Sophos Central
Sophos
The global pandemic has forced companies to rethink their connectivity and access models as well as their IT management. As more solutions are moved to the cloud and employees are increasingly distributed across multiple locations, the need for flexible remote management and scalable connectivity has increased.
Sophos Wireless is a solution for secure, scalable Wi-Fi troubleshooting. The network can be easily expanded by adding an additional access point. This makes it suitable for today's dynamic IT environments where a high degree of adaptability is required.
The cloud-managed Wi-Fi solution offers even more powerful features than controller- or firewall-managed wireless and includes, among others:
- Unlimited scalability
- Optimised RF management, diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Better guest access and enhanced security features
- Maintenance-free, on-demand access

Frequently asked questions
Does Sophos give customers credit for the remaining term of their purchased licenses?
No. Sophos does not make any changes to your customers' use of the products they have purchased, only ensures that your customers can use their products beyond the licensed term, if applicable, at no additional cost.
How can Sophos Central customers who have never used Wireless access the product?
From October, Wireless will be displayed for all customers in the Sophos Central product navigation. All you need is an access point to get started.
Can customers migrate their access points from the firewall to Sophos Central?
Yes, as long as the access points are supported. Before logging into Sophos Central, the access points must first be completely deleted from the firewall.
They can then register their access points as follows:
- In Sophos Central, click Wireless and select Access Points from the navigation menu.
- Click the Register button in the top right corner of the screen. The registration of the access point is displayed.
- Your clients must then follow the steps of the wizard
Up to 30 APs can be registered at a time by uploading a list of serial numbers in .csv format. You will find the corresponding option in the registration wizard.
Where can I find a comparison of the features of Central Wireless compared to SFOS/Sophos UTM?
A full feature comparison can be found in the guide at www.sophos.de/wireless. As Central Wireless subscriptions are discontinued, the guide will be updated accordingly.
