The new Stormshield SN1100 series - The French upgrade
Stormshield
Keeping up to date with the latest IT security technology is difficult for most companies. Nevertheless, most companies cannot avoid regularly updating their software or renewing the hardware they use. Security solutions in modern companies and especially in industry require more and more throughput and flexibility for daily business. The DSGVO regulations have also increased data security precautions. The best protection against external attacks for networks connected via the internet is still a firewall. Many manufacturers have already reacted to the demands of companies and are constantly releasing new next-generation firewalls that meet customer requirements. One of the latest gimmicks is the possibility to expand or reduce the connections of a firewall according to the requirements. One can either launch several models of a firewall with different connections or do it like Stormshield with their new SN1100 high-end devices. These offer the possibility of choosing other connections by means of exchangeable modules. These three new SN models will be available from 16 October 2018.
What are the new Stormshield models?
Stormshield's SN1000 series has received new upgrades. The SN2000, SN3000 and SN6000 models already had a lot to offer in terms of throughput for larger businesses, and now there are their successors: the SN2100, the SN3100 and the SN6100. As mentioned earlier, the SN1100 series has the particular advantage of flexibility of module selection. The update has also increased the firewall throughput. The smallest model of the new series, the SN2100, already has a performance of up to 50 GB/s, the SN3100 offers a performance of up to 70 Gb/s and the SN6100 even has a throughput of up to 140 Gb/s.
What is the advantage of the exchangeable modules?
As you can see from the network module data sheet, there is a choice of 5 modules per firewall for the SN1100 series. It was already possible to exchange the modules in the SN710 and SN910 models, but there was only a smaller selection of 4 exchange modules. The module selection changes the number of interfaces in the 1100 series. For example, there is a module with 8x 10/100/1000 copper line slots and then a module with 2 ports for a 40 Gb/s fibre optic line. Furthermore, there is a module with interfaces for 10 Gb/s fibre, 1 Gb/s fibre and 10 Gb/s copper line. The SN2100 and SN3100 have slots for three of these modules. In the SN6100, even six different modules can be installed. It should be noted that the connectors of the SN6100 are different from those of the SN2100 and the SN3100. Nevertheless, they have the same number of slots in the module and can use the same lines.
