Sophos - RED 20 and RED 60 announced for SOHO
Sophos
Sohos is expected to release new models of the Sophos RED series in April. With the option of a redundant power supply for both models, as well as a VPN throughput of 250 Mbps for the RED 20 and 850 Mbps for the RED 60, even high demands are satisfied. Whether demanding work in the home office or smaller branch offices, they can be quickly, securely and easily integrated into the company network.
As known from the earlier models, zero-touch deployment is also possible with the new models. This is an advantage, especially nowadays, when home offices are being used more than ever. The Sophos RED is simply configured online and the RED is then delivered directly to the destination, unpacked and connected. The RED then automatically downloads the configuration via the internet connection and sets up the VPN tunnel on its own.
The optional redundant power supply can ensure that the Sophos RED remains in operation even in the event of an emergency. In contrast to earlier models, the Sophos RED 20 and the RED 60 have a 5-year warranty. So if the device fails within those 5 years, Sophos will provide a replacement device. However, the warranty cannot be extended compared to the older devices.
In addition, the Sophos RED 20 and 60 are compatible with the WLAN or 3G/4G modules of the SG/XG 125/35 Rev. 3, as well as rackmount kits for the SG 105/115 Rev. 3. This allows you to equip the Sophos RED with WLAN or a 3G/4G modem and conveniently place it in a rack. Mounting on a DIN rail is also possible.
Both the Sophos RED 20 and the RED 60 have an SFP port that is shared with a WAN port. With the Sophos RED 20, you can either use the WAN port or the SFP port. With the RED 60 with 2 WAN ports, the SFP port is shared via the WAN 1 port. WAN2 is then still available.
With a currently planned firmware update, it will also be possible to use the Sophos SFP VDSL module later. This will eliminate the need for a separate modem or router.
The highlight of the Sophos RED 60 is probably the two PoE-capable ports, which can be used to connect IP telephones or access points directly. A separate PoE injector would then be unnecessary. Please note that a maximum of 30 watts can be output via both ports together. Should one port require more than 15 watts, the second PoE port would switch off the PoE functionality and only be available as a normal network port.
Both units have 4 RJ45 network ports, the Sophos RED 60 then uses LAN 1 & 3 for PoE. LAN 1 can be used for PoE+ devices.
Please note, Sophos will discontinue the previous RED15(w) and RED 50 with the release of the new models. Only remaining stocks will then be sold.
