Peering - a term that is often used in the IT world, but not everyone is familiar with it. But what is behind this concept of data exchange between computer networks? How does peering actually work and what advantages does it offer those involved?
Peering is the combination of computer networks for data exchange. It is often used by providers to exchange data more efficiently, increase transmission speeds and reduce costs. Data is usually exchanged via Internet nodes to which many participants can be connected. The more networks that can be reached via peering, the more stable and faster the Internet functions. What are the advantages of peering? On the one hand, the process offers cost savings, as direct communication between networks at an Internet node such as DE-CIX eliminates the fees for forwarding data via third-party providers. On the other hand, direct data exchange speeds up transmission, resulting in lower latency. If you are interested in further information on peering or would like to ask specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
